I think Opal wanted to know ten things about her mother because she doesn't know anything about her mother. I would want to know more than ten things but it was good she found out some stuff about her mother. Usually I don't think you can tell about a whole person by just ten things. If you can the details must be great!

I think you cant tell what people are like by 10 things but in Opals case you can tell her mom was a bad drunk and a good sweet person with a green thumb

I think Opal wants to know 10 things about her mother because i would have killed myself if i knew I had a mom and knew nothing about her. But it was smart to ask 10 things about her mom. if the details are very descriptive you can get a faint idea about the person.

I think Opal wanted to know 10 things about her mother, because it must be hard not knowing anything about your mom! I can tell that Opal's mother was nice and funny because of what her dad told her. I think you would need a lot more than 10 things to know about a whole person. I can make a text to self connection because I know someone who doesn't have their dad with them and I can tell they really want to see him.

I think Opal wanted to know ten things about her mother because her mother ran away when Opal was only three years old. Opal didn't know much about her mother. I would love to know ten things about my mother if she ran away! I can tell Opal's mother was probably very nice, she has read hair and freckles, she can run very fast and fun to tell stories to! I don't think he gave much information about her because if you saw her it would be better!

I think Opal wanted to know ten things about her mother because she wants to actually know her better. I mean, if you live TEN YEARS without a mom then life can get pretty lonely so you might want to know what she was like. I also think that if you only list 10 things about a person then you wouldn't know them better, but (sigh) you take what you can get, and you use what you get to get what you need.

I think that Opal wanted to know the ten things about her mother because when you know someone you love, but you do not know anything about them you want to find out more about them. Ithink Ms. Adams is right it does depend on the things they tell you. They may tell you something you do not want to hear and it may change your perspective of him/her.

ReplyDeleteI think that she was lonely BEFORE she got Winn-Dixie because she only had her dad who was shy and worried about things almost all the time.
But when Winn-Dixie came into Opal's life it was like he was wearing a sign around his neck that says "Cheer up".

But honestly, I dont think ten things is enough to describe a whole person. I mean, think about. If I only knew ten things about my mother, I would be paranoid.

ReplyDeleteOpal's mom was a very important charater because even though she was never "seen" in the story, she was described a lot. ( i.e. ten things were listed in chapter 4) She also played a huge roll on why Opal was even in Naomi in the first place. Or why Opal even FOUND WINN-DIXIE in the first place.

In this story, Opal makes many HUGE dicisions. Like taking in Winn-Dixie when she finds him causing chaos in the grocery store (chapter 1). Or chasing after him when he ran into Gloria Dump's yard (described as a witch by the Dewberry boys...chapter 9) I think those were all big decisions.

I think opal wants to know 10 things abaut her mom so she can get a idea of why her mom left her. Maybe she wonders if it was her fault that her mom left. Or maybe her mom wanted to take her with her, but the preacher wouldn't let her.

Opal wants to find her mother. It is possible to tell someone apart from others with ten things. No, I don't think Opalwill be able to find her mother that easily.

Since Opal is 10 years old, she wanted to know one thing per year about her mother. Opal believed that if she knew these 10 things that she would know her mother if she ran into her on the street.
